Well we are right into the 2019 motorsport season and we have had several events so far. Over the next month there are events on every weekend. Without marshals these events can’t run so we all rely heavily on your goodwill. Marshalling is a great way to get involved in motorsport and get close to the action.
If you are thinking of competing then marshalling is an excellent first step as you see what other competitors are doing – sometimes right and sometimes wrong. Its good to learn the pitfalls before you start competing. Competitors who have previously marshalled have a greater understanding of how the events work and are less likely to pick up unnecessary penalties.
Here are just some of the events I and my fellow marshals will be assisting at. Please come and join us. No experience is necessary as you will always be budded with an experienced marshal.
6th and 7th April 2019 East Ayrshire Car Club Kames Sprint, Kames, near Muirkirk sign on by 09:00. We have our own Sprint next month on the 11th May so this would be a good opportunity to brush up on your sprint marshalling skills. Every marshal gets £10 towards their expenses and a free lunch.
7th April 2019 Flying Scotsman Vintage Rally, Lochearnhead – We are running a test on this well supported event. Signing on is from 12:00 and the opening car is due at 13:05. There are 105 cars competing from a 1907 Itala 40 to a 1948 MG TC. We will be manning a start and finish time control plus several cones to manoeuvre past. We should be finished by 16:00.
13th April 2019 Memorial Garden Stages Rally, Arbroath. If you have seen the Scottish Marshals News email you will know all about this. Stewart Paton will be Chief Marshal and there is a marshals registration form on the Scottish Association of Motor Sports Clubs website. These tarmac events are always well supported by competitors. Plenty of marshals are required so please come along.
Also on the 13th and also the 14th is the Doune Hill Climb. If you can help contact their Chief Marshal Alastair Gray (see the attached file)
20th April 2019 Speyside Stages I will be assisting on Stage 8 Balloch, near Keith. Signing on is not until 13:10 with the first car due 15:10. There is also the chance of helping at one of the morning stages as well.
27th April 2019 Our own Robertson Trophy AutoSolo and Autotest, Ardeer. Details will follow shortly but if you can help, please put it in your diary.
